About The Department

Year of Establishment: B.Sc (Gen.-1960, Hons-2008)
The Department of IFF, Sitananda College, started to run its chariot in the year 2019 with the strength of just fourteen students with a soul for the well-being of the society. And this journey has been going forward in every moment with same zeal. The Fishery Department imparts the basic education in Fishery Science to acquaint the students with diversities in fish life. The Department focuses on ecological importance of fish fauna as well as sustainable use to fisheries resources for the betterment of mankind without interfering the ecosystem. The Department of Fishery Science undertakes the survey and projects to identify and solve the problems of local area on fishery point of view. The IFF Department is committed to provide the best possible education and training to the learners not only make them aware of about the resent trends in the development of Fishery Science but also make them take up their means of livelihood in future in the present arena of job crisis. In short, the Department is determined to make the learners fight against the odds and oddities of life arisen due to the scarcity of enough placement in the markets of professions, having taken up aquaculture as the rod of earning and thrive well. The motto of the Department is ‘to strive, to seek, to find and not to yield’.
This subject has been affiliated as a B.Sc (Major) studies only. The Department has been following the curriculum & regulations of Vidyasagar University.

State Government

In every state in the Country, the government has a fisheries department in which fisheries graduate can apply for the post of AFDO/FEO and District fisheries Development officer.

Foreign Jobs

A part from scope for higher education in fisheries in countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, EU countries, there are demands for fisheries professional in the aquaculture and Processing Sector.

Self-Employment

As an entrepreneur, after completing the professional degree in B.sc, candidate can start their own enterprise. The financial support can be obtained through NABARD or other nationalized banks.

Privet Sector

Candidates can work as a manager or officer in fishery company, Sea food processing and export units, quaffed Plants, fishing gear Industries, hatcheries etc.

National Bank

Fisheries graduates can get jobs as a field officer, managers in agriculture loan Section in nationalized as well as privet banks.

Central Government

One can get job in Central Agencies like MPEDA, FSI, NIO, FAO, NACA, NABARD, EIA.

Academic Institutes

Candidates having completed UG degree can apply for the Post graduation.
