About The Department
Zoology department of Sitananda College was started in July, 1991. Dr. Subhas Chandra Maity was founder head of the department in graduate level, the subject was introduced as pass course in B.Sc. in 1991. The honours (now called major/core & Honours Major/Honours Minor & Pass Major/Pass Minor) course of Zoology in B.Sc. was introduced in 2001.
At present time the faculties are very much enriched with aggregation of excellent teaching.

- 4-Year Bachelor Degree Programme B.Sc. (Hons.) Major in Zoology As per (CCFUP), 2023 & NEP, 2020
- 3-Year Bachelor Degree Programme in Multidisciplinary Studies B.SC. in Life Sciences with Zoology As per (CCFUP), 2023 & NEP, 2020
Aims
- To provide VU courses in Under Graduate level Zoology Honours, General/Multidisciplinary.
- To practice knowledge coupled with practical skills.
- To develop personality, character, self discipline by providing with effective education, field study, outdoor exposure, books and periodicals.
- To inculcate research aptitude and cultivate scientific outlook

Infrastructure
Library: Departmental Library has about 100 books addressing different aspect of Zoology
Laboratory: The department has well equipped Genetics, Biochemistry, Ecology and Histology laboratories with all the required instruments.
Computer and Internet Facility: The department is equipped with two desktops and one laptop with printer, scanner and internet connectivity (Wi-Fi)
Zoological Museum: The museum has a rich collection of preserved indigenous as well as exotic animal species collected since the inception of the department.
