About The Department

The Department of Political Science commenced its journey in 1960, the year the College was established and it aims to empower the students with knowledge and skills for their social, political, and economic lives. The dedicated faculty has fostered a positive academic environment, leading to consistently strong results in university examinations. The subject was being taught exclusively as a general course and in the year 1966 honours was introduced, and it has continued to be taught ever since. We currently employ one SACT teacher and three full-time teachers. At present, the intake capacity is 43 students in honours. Political Science is the busiest and most vibrant department in the institution.

Political science focuses on the study of politics, public policy and government, International Relations using both scientific and humanistic approaches. As globalization increases, so does interest in other countries’ political systems, making political science crucial for understanding both domestic and international issues. It is essential for both citizens and leaders, providing knowledge vital for governance and civic responsibility. Political science also opens diverse career opportunities in law, government, NGOs, and media.

Political Science students gain a deep understanding of politics, democracy, and power dynamics. Faculty use innovative methods like debates and public lectures to enhance learning. The department emphasizes critical thinking and responsible citizenship, celebrating key national days to reinforce democratic values. Students are encouraged to apply their knowledge for the betterment of society. The faculty and students are encouraged to engage in activities that promote a free, just, and humane society. The department is recognized for its student-centric approach and commitment to holistic development. Notably, its alumni are influential in society. The department actively organizes seminars and symposiums on various topics. Faculty and student participation in debates and extracurricular activities keeps the department vibrant. The department has excelled in the Youth Parliament Competition. During the pandemic, they successfully transitioned to online learning and organized webinars, showing great enthusiasm and collaboration.

Why do we study Political Science?

The Department has established a Saturday Club

There is a Saturday Club in the Department which observes voters’ day, constitution day, etc. Moreover, the members of the club campaigns in the college and the locality about importance of voting, political system and nature of right to vote, enrolment in electoral rolls etc. The Club also Arranges debates on topical issues.

Regular internal Evaluation

Department arranged regular class tests for evaluation and also home assignments are given regularly to improve writing skills and critical thinking. For this purpose, student seminars and group discussions are also arranged.

Separate Accommodation for the Department

Our department has separate departmental room with availability of computer facility. Separate arrangement of departmental class room for all which help the students very much.
